A Solstice Assembly
Saturday, December 21, 2024

Details:
A very special afternoon of winter solstice music with Pratie Heads, Shape Note Shifters, and Solstice Singers.
Bob Vasile and Jane Peppler have been playing music together (Pratie Heads) for many decades and are exceptional musicians as well as North Carolina favorites. They perform dance music, songs and ballads of England, Scotland, Ireland, Colonial America, and beyond.
The Shape Note Shifters are Amy Davis, Iris Newlin, Jon Newlin, and Ed Norman all from Durham. Their repertoire includes folk and traditional American religious song ranging from shape note hymns dating back to the early 1800s, camp meeting and brush arbor songs, African American spirituals and jubliee quartets, and old-time and bluegrass gospel songs. Their style is exuberant and features tight harmonies bringing a sense of tension and vitality to this material. Often accompanied by banjo, fiddle, and guitar, the group is equally at home performing a cappella.
This will be a very special evening of beautiful solstice music in our equally beautiful, new theater at The ArtsCenter, 400 Roberson St. Carrboro
